Escape From the Deep
This was my first project working with Director, and my first time creating anything more than a button to another page in a scripting language. I took to Lingo quite quickly and was able to understand the basics of programming. The aim was to make a quest orientated interactive adventure game. Before this project I had created sketches of some fictional undersea creatures and decided to create a game that could feature those creatures. I am a fan of the Steampunk genre and wanted to keep the old romance of copper, rivets and clunky deepsea-diver helmets in the game.
The interface was created using textures made from scratch in Photoshop, as were the buttons. The backgrounds and inventory items were edited photographs to ensure they looked very different from the original. I drew the sprites for the game and I wish I had the time to colour them accordingly, however my imagination may have run away from me a little and I made the game a little bigger than it needed to be.
There were a few hiccups with the coding near the end but nothing that testing and debugging couldn't fix. The game was very much hardcoded, however if I were to undertake the project again I'd include more handlers to make tracking scripts a lot easier.
