Finding Grace

In my final year of University one of my projects involved finding a music artist and then create a CD cover, brochure and website for them. My friends suggested a band they'd heard of from Seaford. Being a local band meant that I'd have more contact than e-mail or phoning interstate.

The CD cover involved listening to around three tracks from their new album and asking one of the members what kind of feeling he was going for. I went for a worn western, indie rock feel. I did a couple of sketches on paper before deciding on the feature cover graphic. I trawled a couple of royalty free image sites and found the materials I needed. With a little bit of Photoshop I came up with the finished product at the correct dimensions, ready to print at 300 dpi. Putting the paper in an actual CD case makes it look almost real, it felt quite satisfying making it.

The assignment requirement to make a brochure, which I also put a lot of effort into, despite the fact that bands tend to give out flyers instead. Like the CD the graphics were made in photoshop and these images were imported into InDesign to have the text applied. This was done for clarity reasons, as the printer would read the fonts as being vectorised instead of blurring slightly through pixellation.

During the brochure project I changed the direction of my design slightly because of some new ideas that Finding Grace wanted to incorporate. I used Fireworks for the drop-down menu system, though now I'd prefer to use a spry element from Dreamweaver CS3, it's much cleaner code-wise. You can check out the Finding Grace Website here.I know people will look at this once I say it but pay no heed to the wallpaper section as it is for demonstration purposes only. As for the flash mp3 players, instead of trying to re-invent the wheel, I should really just follow a tutorial or use a generic player next time. There's only one way to learn.
