Interactive Game
"Hobo the Clown's Journey to Sobriety" was an interactive game that was developed for a University assignment. I worked in a 4 person team to conceptualise and complete an interactive game using Macromedia Director.
I wrote the dialogue text, storyline and back-story for the game's characters. I also was responsible for creating and colouring character sprites and backgrounds. Other group members also worked on graphics and coding the game. I performed a small part of the coding by creating a click and drag puzzle.
For those who haven't guessed yet the game is set in a travelling circus. I was quite proud of how I was able to create the storyline and let all of the character's stories slot together. The whole team was convinced that our game was the best in the class. We were surprised with how easily the storylines developed and just slotted together, as if it were meant to be.
The player has purchased tickets to enter the circus to see a famous clown. Unfortunately he has been drinking and isn't fit to perform. So the player goes on a quest to collect items to restore Hobo the Clown back to his former self. Along the way you meet the Gypsy Psychic, the Lion, the Strongman, a Daredevil, Siamese Twins and the expressionless Ticket/Ring Master. Cliche I know.
In classical game fashion the player must help the characters with tasks in exchange for items required to restore Hobo's Sobriety. Along the way you find out that Hobo has had a hard life. He joined the circus to gain a family and a home, enjoying what he does best: making people laugh. His closest friend, his parrot Papagei, dies of laughter and Hobo has vowed never to make a soul laugh again. This explains Hobo's deep state of depression. After the player completes all of the tasks Hobo is feeling better and the whole circus comes together to support him. Then the Great Hobo the Clown finally goes on stage.
Unfortunately given the nature of Director files, it isn't efficient to put it in an online environment. The game was designed to be played off of a CD.
